Joint guidance on peptide receptor radionuclide therapy in neuroendocrine tumors.

چکیده
A practical guidance document on peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRNT) in neuroendocrine tumors is being published this month in the European Journal of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (1). This document is the result of close collaboration among experts in the field of PRRNT from the International Atomic Energy Agency; the Radionuclide Therapy, Oncology, Dosimetry, and Radiopharmacy Committees of the European Association of Nuclear Medicine; and the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging. This is a guidance document and not an organizational guideline. As such, it did not go through the formal process required for guidelines. In addition, the radiopharmaceuticals used for the diagnostic and therapeutic procedures addressed in this guidance document are not approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the United States. Therefore, in the United States these procedures can be performed only by physicians enrolled in an investigational protocol pursuant to a valid Investigational New Drug application or Radioactive Drug Research Committee approval and under the purview of an appropriate Institutional Review Board. The abstract is a good summary of the content of the guidance:

The comparison of serial SPECT-CT imaging to estimate absorbed dose to the organ at risk from peptide receptor radionuclide therapy dosimetry
Introduction: In Peptide Receptor Radionuclide Therapy (PRRT), the administration of radionuclide such as Lu-177 label with a pharmaceutical agent useful to destroy the lesion. The amount of Lu-177 radioactivity administered to the patients is still not standardize and generally not more than 7.4 GBq per session due to the patient’s safety issues. The first cycle of Lu-177 is a...
متن کاملDevelopmental trends in targeted radionuclide therapy of neuroendocrine tumors
Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) constitute a heterogeneous group of neoplasms including carcinoids, pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors, pituitary tumors, medullary thyroid carcinoma and phaeochromocytomas. The symptoms and the outcome of NETs differ considerably between patients depending on several factors. By labelling tracers with a radioisotope, the tracer acts as a ...

Objective(s): Somatostatin receptor-positive neuroendocrine tumors have been targeted using various peptide analogs radiolabeled with therapeutic radionuclides for years. The better biomedical properties of radioantagonists as higher tumor uptake make these radioligands more attractive than agonists for somatostatin receptor-targeted radionuclide therapy. In this study...
متن کاملENETS Consensus Guidelines for the Standards of Care in Neuroendocrine Tumors: peptide receptor radionuclide therapy with radiolabeled somatostatin analogs.
The purpose of this guideline is to assist physicians caring for patients with neuroendocrine tumors in considering eligibility criteria for peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT), and in defining the minimum requirements for PRRT. This guideline also makes recommendations on what minimal patient, tumor, and treatment outcome characteristics should be reported for PRRT in order to make co...
